Lack of motivation
Some days we just feel unmotivated. We want to seriously get something done but are lacking the energy to do so.
Discover how to manoeuvre past that issue with proven techniques like the 5 minute rule, brainstorming, experimenting with new approaches and learning to make a task fun.
What is motivation
Motivation is the internal drive or desire to take action, achieve goals, or fulfill needs.
It's what pushes you to start, persist, and complete tasks, fueled by factors like personal desires, rewards, or external pressures.
Techniques to regain it
There’s several things you can do to regain motivation.
Even though losing the motivation to do something might seem like a signal to step back & pause; more often than not, it’s actually challenging you to do the opposite.
the 5 minute rule
The 5-minute rule is a simple yet effective productivity technique. The idea is to commit to working on a task for just 5 minutes.
Set a timer and begin tackling the task you've been procrastinating on. Often, getting started is the hardest part. Once the 5 minutes are up, I guarantee you, the momentum gained from this technique will keep you going easily.
Brainstorming
Sometimes a simple brainstorming session can help you identify the cause of your mental state. It’s easier to approach the issue if you can identify and understand it.
After figuring out what’s bothering you, you can either step away or choose to address the problem. (Maybe even using the 5 minute rule) ↑
Experiment with new approaches
If a task feels too unrewarding or demotivating to complete, make it fun for yourself instead of suffering your way through it.
-Turn it into a game, with milestones as rewards & the tough questions as final level
-Get yourself into a challenge mindset:
Whatever you’re trying to do is like an unsolvable puzzle?
-If nothing works:
bring a friend along. I can’t promise you’ll get much done, but this way is possibly more exciting and will motivate you to do tasks like this one in the future.
An important question:
How do I decide whether to return to my project another day or push through when I'm feeling unmotivated or overwhelmed?
