What do you think of when you hear the word “centrepiece?” If we ask doctor Google, there are several definitions, but for now I want you to think of an ice statue in the middle of the room. The function of this statue is to be the main centre of attention, a highlight of every party and most importantly work as a memorable element.

I want you to image you are the statue. The only question is:

What do you want people to remember?

A quick time travel

As always as kids it was easier; nobody asked themselves what their identity was:

You just did what was fun to you and soon you were known as the “karate“ or “ballet” kid.

That is the concept of what I call centre pieces: You take a handful of things you want to be known for and show them to the world. How you do that is up to you, but there are a few proven methods that work best to make you stick out.

The “spike method“

- find something that fits with you and you want to be known for

- gain experience and grow an Expertise;

- show people by making it interesting for them

—-> You can never predict what other people care about and what not. That is also not your job or goal with this method; but by telling them what you do and why it was so intriguing in the first place, you may wake their own interest while at the same time standing by the profession you chose.

The Reason it's called "Spike method"

A spike is someone who sticks out, who decides to do their own thing even if others don't share the same attitude/skill/whatever it may be. Not meaning you should choose to do something that has never been done before or can't share an attribute or two with your friends. To stand out, add an interesting twist to your approach-just like you don't have to be the best in an entire field, but it's valuable to excel in a specific niche within it.

Just like many people before did:

Stephen King (Horror Fiction)

In the vast field of literature, Stephen King is known for his mastery of horror and supernatural fiction. While he's written in other genres, his ability to delve into psychological horror and supernatural themes has made him a standout in this niche. By focusing on this specific area, he became one of the most recognized authors in the world.

Stephen King isn’t the only one involved in literature, but by focusing only on a specific field within the category he managed to obtain success and become one of the most recognised authors in the world.
